There are dual-purpose breeds of which the males can be used for meat production and the females can be used for meat and egg production. This female hen however, lays fewer eggs than a layer specifically bred for this purpose and the male doesn’t put on weight as quickly as a broiler. This makes it overall far less efficient and sustainable than keeping chickens specifically bred for either laying egg or meat production.
